Strengthening the public health workforce: An estimation of the long-term requirements for public health specialists in Serbia

At the beginning of the 21st century, planning the public health workforce requirements came into the focus of policy makers. The need for improved provision of essential public health services, driven by a challenging non-communicable disease and causes of death and disability within Serbia, calls for a much needed estimation of the requirements of the public health professionals. Equity in access to care in the era of health system reforms in Turkey

The aim of this study was to evaluate access to healthcare from an equity perspective on the way toward Universal Health Coverage in Turkey. In order to The country representative data from 2006 to 2013 Turkey Income and Living Conditions Surveys were analyzed. Private household residents aged fifteen and older were asked for self-reported unmet need for medical care in the past twelve months.

Management of multimorbidity using a patient-centred care model: a pragmatic cluster-randomised trial of the 3D approach

The management of people with multiple chronic conditions challenges health-care systems designed around single conditions. There is international consensus that care for multimorbidity should be patient-centred, focus on quality of life, and promote self-management towards agreed goals. However, there is little evidence about the effectiveness of this approach. The article´s hypothesis was that the patient-centred, so-called 3D approach (based on dimensions of health, depression, and drugs) for patients with multimorbidity would improve their health-related quality of life, which is the ultimate aim of the 3D intervention.

Barriers and Facilitators to Workforce Changes in Integrated Care

Health systems are faced with an ageing population and an increase in chronic conditions. These challenges require more appropriate approaches than the current largely single-disease and acute-care focussed health care systems. Integrated care is seen as one of the most promising of these approaches by targeting the health system, patient-provider relationships, care process design, communication infrastructures, community resources, and how care is delivered by health professionals. The aim of the study is to investigate the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of workforce changes implemented as part of integrated chronic care interventions.

The patient perspective in health care networks

Health care organization is entering a new age. Focus is increasingly shifting from individual health care institutions to interorganizational collaboration and health care networks. Much hope is set on such networks which have been argued to improve economic efficiency and quality of care. However, this does not automatically mean they are always ethically justified. A relevant question that remains is what ethical obligations or duties one can ascribe to these networks especially because networks involve many risks. Are low and high utilization related to the way GPs manage their practices? An observational study

General practice care plays a key role in keeping healthcare effective and cost-efficient. However, variation in the utilization rates of practices may reveal variation in practice performance. This research goal is to investigate whether the socio-demographic profile of the patient´s area of residence and practice organization characteristics influence the low or high utilization of general practice care.
