In his speech of 4 November 2015, the then Minister for Health, Simon Hamilton MLA, announced that in response to recommendation 1 of The Right Time, The Right Place report by Sir Liam Donaldson, he would appoint an expert, clinically led panel to consider and lead an informed debate on the best configuration of Health and Social Care services in NI.

The Panel was appointed in January 2016 and comprised local and international members.

Improving Care for People with Long Term Conditions

This report, published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in Scotland, argues that pharmacist led care of people with long term conditions could deliver better results and be more cost effective. Community-based approaches to healthcare improvement are receiving increasing attention. Such approaches could offer an infrastructure for efficient knowledge-sharing and a potent means of influencing behaviours, but their potential is yet to be optimised. After briefly reviewing challenges to community based approaches this study describes in detail the clinical community model. Through exploring clinical communities in practice, they seek to identify practical lessons for optimising this community-based approach to healthcare improvement.

The aim of this study is to investigate primary care managers´perceptions of their capability in providing care planning to patients with complex needs. Care planning is defined as a process where the patient, family and health professionals engage in dialogue about the patient´s care needs and plan care interventions together. 

Integrated Care: theory to practice

"Integrated care" is pitched as the solution to current health system challenges. In the literature, what integrated care actually involves is complex and contested. Multi-disciplinary team management is frequently the primary focus of integrated care when implemented internationally. New care models. Emerging innovations in governance and organisational form

Self-perception of leadership styles and behaviour in primary health care

The concept of leadership has been studied in various disciplines and from different theoretical approaches. 

In the primary health care (PHC) setting, managers´leadership style is defined as a set of acttitudes, behaviours, beliefs and values. The objetives of this study were to describe and learn about the self-perception of behaviours and leadership style among PHC managers; to determine the influence of the leadership style on job satisfaction, efficiency and willingness to work in a team; and to determine the relationship between transformational and transactional styles according age, gender, profession and the type of organization.
