Primary healthcare policy implementation in the Eastern Mediterranean region: Experiences of six countries.

Primary healthcare (PHC) is essential for equitable access and cost-effective healthcare. This makes PHC a key factor in the global strategy for universal health coverage (UHC). Implementing PHC requires an understanding of the health system under prevailing circumstances, but for most countries, no data are available.
This paper describes and analyses the health systems of Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Qatar, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, in relation to PHC.

Impact assessment of Iran’s health technology assessment programme

The present article aims to introduce an integrative RIH framework drawing on the RRI literature, the international literature on health systems as well as specific bodies of knowledge that shed light on key dimensions of health innovations. Community-based integrated approach to changing women's family planning behaviour in Pakistan, 2014–2016

Pakistan is currently experiencing a clear imbalance in population needs and available resources. Although contraceptive use increased from 11.9% in 1990 to 35% in 2013 and the fertility rate declined from 5.4 births per woman in 1990 to 3.8 in 2013, women in Pakistan still report a high unmet need for family planning services, of −20%. Barriers to, and opportunities for, palliative care development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

The 22 countries of WHO´s Eastern Mediterranean Region are experiencing an increase in the burden of non-communicable deseases (NCDs), including cancer. Of the six WHO regions, the Eastern Mediterranean Region is projected to have the greatest increase in cancer incidence in the next 15 years. With increasing numbers of deaths from cancer, palliative care should be available to relieve suffering in patients with advance desease and at the end of life. However, in the Eastern Mediterranean Reion, the palliative care available is variable and inconsistent.

Developing patient safety system using WHO tool in hospitals in Oman

Oman is progressively implementing the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Iniciative (PSFHI), a tool formulated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to achieve optimal patient safety in hospitals. This paper  describes its implementation in selected government and private hospitals in Oman and analyses the performance of four hospitals whose implementations of PSFHI were assessed by WHO.

Analyze and improve the patient flow in hospital environments, with improved layout different sectors: A case study of Shahid Beheshti hospital, Iran

Hospital officials are looking to reduce traffic on the hospital wards. The less congestion on the ward, cause that the staff work by more quality and freely also patients are waiting less. As a result it is easier to treat the patients. One of the most effective ways to reduce the patient traffic is changing the layout of the hospital. In this study, changing the layout of the hospital was explore by a case study in Shahid Behesthti Hospital. This research aims to optimize a hospital patient flow by using computerized relationship layout planning.
