Delivering person-centred care through new technology

The Priority Research Centre for Brain and Mental Health Research (University of Newcastle, Australia), following their success in organising the e-Mental Health International Conference in 2016 and 2018,  once again brings the conference to you. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, conference will be held online this year.

The conference will provide a forum focusing on applying information and communication technologies in person-centred strategies of mental health care. The COVID19 pandemic highlighted some structural – organizational and cultural – limitations of our dominant model of (health)care. One of these is the need to identify and adopt newer instruments for the continuity of care for the large number of patients with chronic disease who live in low-density population areas  (200 million or 27% of EU population) and experience inequality to access (health)care because of the distance between community and healthcare structures. Notably, the onset of multimorbidity occurs 10–15 years earlier in people living in the most deprived areas compared with the most a?uent.

This thematic workshop is the opportunity to discuss solutions of integrated care concepts rolled out by ICT-supported primary and secondary care interventions for older people living at home. Focus will be set onto the implementation challenges and the lessons learned from projects throughout EIP on AHA Reference Sites such as the Oberbergischer Kreis, the Portuguese Amadora as well as by the multi-stakeholder open platform concept rolled out in the EU-H2020 SHAPES project.

The global public health community will be meeting at a critical time for our planet. Global temperatures lie far beyond historical records and there are real fears that we are reaching a tipping point. Threats to food and water supply, poverty and inequalities are leading to mass migration and conflict.

The theme of the World Congress, Public Health for the Future of Humanity: Analysis, Advocacy, and Action, reflects the commitment that the global public health community must make visible the threats to health, and must challenge and hold to account those with the power to make a difference.
