Fourth Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

The global community is presented with an unprecedented challenge and an opportunity: to avert a potential 18 million health worker shortfall and shape increasing demand for additional health and social workforce jobs. In doing so, we will make progress towards universal health coverage and global health security while also contributing to gains across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (e.g. quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, decent jobs and inclusive economic growth).

Levers for integrating social work into primary healthcare networks in Austria

The integrated healthcare of patients with support needs in primary healthcare in Austria has insufficient structural and procedural features in terms of the quality and security of care. The aim is therefore to develop solution- and patient-oriented services that take into account both the patients’ requirements as well as the medical, nursing, therapeutic and economic perspectives. 

“To be seen” – older adults and their relatives’ care experiences given by a geriatric mobile team (GerMoT)

The proportion of older people in the population has increased globally and has thus become a challenge in health and social care. There is good evidence that care based on comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is superior to the usual care found in acute hospital settings; however, the evidence is scarcer in community-dwelling older people.The participants of this study found the care easily accessible, and that contacts could be taken according to needs by health care professionals who knew them. This is in accordance with person-centred care as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for older people in need of integrated care.

EHFG 2022: A moonshot for a true European Health Union. If not now, when?

Under the patronage of the Austrian Federal President, Alexander Van der Bellen, the European Health Forum Gastein will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022 and take stock of the substantial accomplishments in public health over the last quarter century. At the same time, we will look forward and discuss the challenges and policy options for action urgently needed across sectors, borders, and disciplines at this watershed moment for health, security, and solidarity. This is the window of opportunity to co-create a true European Health Union! “Building forward better” requires fundamental transformation of the way our societies operate – and this can only be achieved through peace in Europe, supported by political will, collaboration, and unity.
