Inclusion Health: Education and Training for Health Professionals: END of STUDY REPORT

The concept of Inclusion Health is founded on the premise that not all UK citizens have access to the highest standards of healthcare. Meeting the health needs of a small group of socially excluded individuals and their communities remains a challenge. This population has poorer predicted health outcomes and a shorter life expectancy than the average population. The National Inclusion Health programme for England was launched in March 2010 as a cross-government programme led by the Department of Health. It provides a framework for driving improvements in health outcomes for socially excluded groups. The rationale for setting up this framework is to increase the understanding and visibility of the health needs and health outcomes of socially excluded groups. Health Services Research Spending and Healthcare System Impact

The challenges associated with translating health services and policy research evidence into practice are many and long-standing. Indeed, those challenges have themselves spawned new areas of research, including knowledge translation and implementation science. These sub-disciplines have increase our understanding of the critical success factors associated with the uptake of research evidence into (system) practice. In that regard, building on Canada´s recent Strategy for Patient Oriented Research would seem to offer consideravle promise. The "modest" proposals offered by Thakkar and Sulivan seem less likely to bear fruit. 

Twenty years observation of health systems and policies: what has the European observatory meant for public health?

Twenty years ago, as Europe was preparing itself for the new millennium with a mixture of enthusiasm and trepidation, the WHO Regional Director for Europe established a clearing house for health care reforms that would ultimately give birth to ‘The European Observatory on Health Care Systems’. Health systems in central and Eastern Europe were changing rapidly, with consequences for the health of the populations concerned. Integrated care pilots in England revisited

The purpose of this paper is to explore the outcomes identified by the evaluation of the national programme of integrated care pilots (ICPs) in England in the context of wider policies designed to deliver integrated care and to consider the challenges presented to policy makers and evaluators in distilling usable insights to promote effective policy.

Also, this paper considers why evaluation findings appear limited in their impact on policy in the field of integrated care. Views as to how evaluation might be undertaken so that it generates actionable insights are advanced.

Global temperatures lie far beyond historical records and there are real fears that we are reaching a tipping point. Threats to food and water supply, poverty and inequalities are leading to mass migration and conflict.

The theme of the World Congress, Public Health for the Future of Humanity: Analysis, Advocacy, and Action, reflects the commitment that the global public health community must make visible the threats to health, and must challenge and hold to account those with the power to make a difference.

Service Delivery Reforms for Asian Ageing Societies: A Cross-Country Study Between Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines

Japan’s health policies to address the most advanced-aged society have been the target of focus in Asia, but no studies have investigated this issue using tools for cross-country comparisons.

A cross-country study design was used to compare healthcare reform policies with a framework in Japan, Korea, Thailand, China, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Data were collected via document reviews and key informant interviews.

Three distinctions were identified. First, all countries except for the Philippines have policy decisions regarding reforms for the existing service delivery systems for healthcare, long-term care and welfare. Second, the most extensive service delivery reform is currently being implemented in Japan, whose system is shifting to primary health care. Population health management in primary health care: a proactive approach to improve health and well-being: primary heath care policy paper series

Overview

Population health management can play a critical role in strengthening primary health care (PHC) by providing a data-driven, people-centred and proactive approach to managing the health and well-being of a defined population. By identifying subgroups with similar characteristics and needs, population health management can enable PHC providers to move from a one-size-fits-all approach to targeted and tailored interventions that account for the needs of different groups and individuals. By focusing on the social determinants of health and psychosocial needs, population health management can help PHC providers in adopting a holistic and proportionate universalism approach to address health inequalities at the community level. This publication identifies key success factors at the system, organizational and clinical levels to enable population health management in PHC.
